Know How : Mould casting
|
|
|
Molding process consists in making a copy of the desired part by using chemically bonded sands
-
Sand casting is the single casting method applied by the Group.
-
The mold is made from a pattern (being adapted from an existing one or created for the purpose).
-
Several components are then added into the mold :
-
Chillers can be placed in the mold to control the solidification of the metal
-
Risers are also added in to supply molten metal at desired areas during the solidification of the metal
-
Gates are created to pour down the liquid metal into the mold
-
The mold is filled up with a sand mixture, bonded by chemical binders, such as furane resins.
-
Sand-molded cores can then be inserted in the mold to create holes and improve the casting's net shape.
-
Two piece molds are clamped together to avoid that melted metal escapes when poured down.
